@Aldiwa720 1 day ago | “For the Japanese, knowing what the drugs they take do is cool, for Americans, it's risky.” I'm from Latin America. Peru, specifically, literally the antipodes of Japan. And here you literally have to know at least the basics of compounds (Salbutamol, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Cetirizine, etc.) since the generic compound is much cheaper than the brand name one. Also, regarding the issue of looking everywhere, which is unusual in Japan, here in Peru it's the golden rule. If you are in a very crowded area, we Peruvians will always tend to carry our backpacks or bags in the front of our torso and avoid taking out cell phones. (So yes, a Peruvian is likely to have a seizure if he carries a laptop in his backpack in Akihabara) In fact, for Peruvians the United States is a very safe and quiet place, so imagine Japan. And we're also really otaku. We literally have an anime Netflix. || @DinnerForkTongue 4 hours ago || Can confirm the same thing goes in Brazil, both in danger awareness and medicine knowledge but even more so in cell phone safety. The majority here is fueled by the highest incident of thefts and robberies on per-pop basis, and is practically paranoid about safekeeping their smartphones. I live in a gated complex and even then I'm still wary when I walk to my ride in the early morning. At least before this year made the crisis that much worse, the US was a beach resort in comparison.
